Elicia and Alwyn’s beautiful wedding journey started when he asked her to become his wife in South Africa on Blouberg Beach while the sun was setting on New Year’s Eve of 2018.

What was your wedding inspiration?
Elicia: "I instantly fell in love with the 4th venue we looked at. It wasn’t a difficult choice. Our wedding was not going to be anywhere else but there. The venue was the inspiration for our wedding planning. Dark, modern, elegant, glass, chic and crystal."
Why did you choose your gown?
"I am not an over-the-top, over-dramatic person. I don’t like big trains. I wanted something 'plain.' The Lesley gown from the Blue by Enzoani collection was my first choice.
I was extremely comfortable with the staff in the retail store. I tried on all the gowns they suggested. They were very professional and I trusted them. A budget didn’t matter so much at that stage. I was adamant to find something special. The sales lady suggested I try on a couture gown. I thought I would never be able to afford it.
She brought out the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen! It was one of the last gowns I tried on. Her name was Nina and she stole my heart! I found my dream gown! The boning at the chest caught my attention, it was lovely. The glitter on the gown was stunning even though it wasn’t me. She was luxurious and classy, I just loved everything about the gown. Lesley wasn’t a comparison anymore... Even though Nina was a couture gown and quite expensive, I made up my mind. I had to go the extra mile; it was my big day after all!!"
"While busy with the alterations, we decided to alter the dress slightly so I would be able to remove the train after the ceremony as it was very heavy. If I could do it all over again, I would do everything exactly the same! Still think my gown is the most beautiful gown there is!"

"The ceremony was quite a far walk. It was very dramatic. As I was approaching with my dad on my side, everyone started crying. Alwyn just cried; it was incredibly special and dear to my heart. That was all I wanted, for it to be a very emotional day. A moment we will remember and cherish forever."
What was your favorite part of the day?
"Unquestionably the ceremony. We wrote our own vows. It was very emotional and personal to read it out loud to each other in front of all our loved ones."
What advice can you give to brides searching for their dream gowns?
"Don’t be headstrong. Listen to people’s advice. Especially at the bridal store where you are fitting gowns. Don’t be scared, try on everything.
Be honest, say if you don’t like something or if it doesn’t feel comfortable. Don’t worry about what other people might think. This is not the time to spare anyone’s feelings. It is your special day. You must feel 100% confident and happy. The right gown will make you feel like a princess. There is no such thing as an ugly bride."
"The last advice is, don’t hold back your budget when it comes to your wedding dress. You can save money on other things, not on your gown! Go for that dress you love. You won’t regret it!"
