I met my husband when I came to Miami as an intern to finish my Bachelor’s degree. Once I finished my internship, we were inseparable. I went back to Mexico (where I completed college) to graduate, and Javi came with me to meet my family. Everyone flew in from Costa Rica, and they were thrilled to meet my boyfriend.

We were touring a beautiful little city in southern Mexico, and we stayed at a hotel that was still basically under construction. The owners were a friend of a friend, and we were the lucky first guests. After a long day of walking and rowing in a foggy lagoon, we all went back to the hotel for some well-deserved rest.

Javi kept on going on about how beautiful the view was up on the hotel roof, so I accepted to go check it out before we went to bed. Once up on the roof, I realized Javi wasn't kidding. The view was breathtaking, you could see the entire city! Then as hoteliers normally do, we started looking at ways to convert this unfinished rooftop into a profitable appetizer bar-type ambience for guests.

As we walked around expressing our crazy ideas, we also got into talking about our future together, some of our goals, and how we were going to do whatever it took to end up in the same place in each other’s arms. I look out towards the view and take a long glance, just breathing in the tranquility of it all, but I notice an awkward silence.

As I turn back, I must peek downward to find the man of my dreams on one knee with an open box and a question at 8:50 pm:
"Will you marry me?"
I honestly was not expecting it, and stood there frozen with tears in my eyes until he started to look a little worried, and I realized I hadn't answered. By then, all I could do was say YES and jump into his arms. We stayed there holding each other until my happy tears stopped and I could breathe properly again.

We decided to give long distance a try since I got an amazing work opportunity traveling through Latin America on a management program. It wasn’t ideal and we made the most of it traveling back and forth to see each other. Each trip was a new adventure, and it solidified how much we loved each other. Flash forward to today, we are happily married, with two fur babies we adopted.

Most Memorable Moment:
It was such an amazing day, it’s hard to pinpoint just one moment. If I had to choose, I’d say it was walking into the church, heading down the aisle with my mom on one hand and my grandfather on the other, looking up to the love of my life with happy tears in his eyes. Once we reached the altar, we both let out a breath of relief and said, “We made it, it’s really happening, I love you so much.” I hadn’t considered how nervous I was and almost fainted right after this; my photographer quickly saw me and ran to get some cold water. Thankfully the priest had us all sit before I fell.
About the Dress!
I honestly wasn’t the type of woman that always aspired to get married, I was raised by a hard-working single mother of two who set our aspirations towards good education and independence. When my Prince Charming came along and proposed, I was shocked and very lost as to what I wanted.

LENA was the 4th dress I tried on, and it made my heart flutter. I kept on trying more dresses, but my heart had already decided for me. A trip that was only to narrow down the type of dress I wanted, ended up being finding the dress I never knew I wanted.

Advice to other brides?
No matter how stressful and hectic the wedding planning can get, never lose sight of the amazing person who you’ll be spending your life with and the memories you’ll make along the journey. Most of all, enjoy making sure you leave someone in charge of any last-minute decisions on the day of, so you can focus on having the best day of your life.
