Styled Shoot: A Gorgeous Anniversary in Grand Rapids

Bringing bright spring florals to the heart of Grand Rapids, Michigan

A photographer for the madly in love, Tylee Shay went on to create a magical styled photo shoot with talented florist and designer at Joy and Bloom Design Co, Alicia Gonzalez, that would perfectly encompass the love between the newly married couple, Kelli and Omar. While their wedding was compromised due to several events unfolding within 2020, Tylee was able to recreate a stunning one-year anniversary shoot that played off the florals in spring and complemented our dreamy ATHÉNAÏS gown so well...

We wanted to hear more about how these beautiful photos came to life by asking Tylee about the inspiration for this shoot. Read on to hear all the inside scoop!

What was the inspiration for your shoot?

"Several vendors came together to show off their talent in an eye-catching way. The stylist and florist created a stunning tablescape with pops of color, exotic fruity accent pieces, and vintage flatware by a vendor who sources her rentals from local thrift stores. The venue itself is a one-of-a-kind remodeled mansion in the heart of Grand Rapids, Michigan with eccentric details and original character.

Lastly, our stunning model couple is coming up on the 1-year anniversary of their COVID wedding. Not only were their wedding plans compromised due to COVID in May 2020, but their wedding night was jeopardized due to an outbreak of riots in downtown Grand Rapids. The model bride is wearing her own wedding dress which had not yet been cleaned, and it still had traces of tear gas on it from the riots on their wedding evening. The couple was humbled and excited to be able to relive their wedding day and capture more bright, hopeful images than the ones they were able to receive on their original wedding date.

This gorgeous dress is anything but simple with floral, baroque lace that continues to cascade into a dramatic, sculpted train for a jaw-dropping bridal look. How could you not fall in love with this gown?

Tylee shares more on the springtime shoot:

"As vendors, we are always trying to inspire our couples to be bold and unique in each detail of their wedding day, so the inspiration behind this shoot was to showcase each other's work in a fun and different way. We also intentionally used bright colors to allude to the brightness that is coming back into our world with the blooming of spring and the slow but steady light that is growing at the end of the pandemic tunnel."
