Damon and I have actually been best friends since we were 15. We met at high school and dated briefly, but the timing wasn’t quite right. After we left high school, our friendship blossomed into something more, and we moved in together and to a different city after just 9 months.

Our engagement was a long time coming, Damon proposed 10 years to the day after we first met. He planned an incredible surprise weekend away in Byron Bay (one of our favourite places to spend time) under the guise of it being his birthday, and got down on one knee under an incredible 100-year-old fig tree with a champagne picnic waiting for us.

We got a bit busy buying and renovating our first house, but finally made it down the aisle nearly 2 years later. I think what makes our relationship so strong is that it’s based on the most incredible friendship. I feel so lucky to have found that at such a young age.

Any advice to brides?

I think it’s so hard to take advice until you’ve gone through the process yourself. I can’t recommend having a wedding planner highly enough if it’s an option in your budget. Laura from Wanderlust Creative was the most incredible person to have walk us through the process, and our day wouldn’t have been what it was without her.

As cliché as it sounds, just know that you’re never going to be able please everyone, and at the end of the day, what matters is that you and your fiancé have the day that you want and makes you happy.

Most memorable moment from your wedding?

There are two memories that I can’t choose between. The first is stepping outside, just the two of us, during the reception to have some photos taken.

We walked out to the most incredible sunset over the gorgeous heart-shaped lake at Tanglewood. We got into a wooden row boat decorated with flowers and rowed out to the middle of the lake.

It made for some of our favourite photos, but it was also so special to have the time out for just the two of us.

The other memory for me was on the dance floor towards the end of the night. Our band played ‘Little Lion Man’ by Mumford and Sons, and it was incredible to look around, seeing everyone we love so much enjoying themselves.

All our guests were dancing and singing - everyone had an incredible time. Knowing that all of it was in the name of celebrating our love...it was pure joy for me at that moment; I’ll cherish it forever.

Please do tell us about your gown!

I had tried on quite a few dresses before finding Maddie, but nothing had felt like ‘the one’ -- to be honest, I wasn’t even really sure what I wanted my dress to look like.

I was starting to think that I would probably have to get something custom-made (I’m pretty fussy), and even had an appointment booked to get the process started.

We decided to go to White Lily Couture first for one last look, and my Mum actually saw Maddie on the rack and insisted I try it on, despite me not being convinced. Once I had it on and stepped out from behind the curtain, my Mum, sister, and our lovely shop assistant were all in tears instantly, and I knew then that I had absolutely found ‘the one.'

Incredibly, Maddie had only arrived in store for the very first time two days before my appointment, and I was the first bride to purchase it from White Lily. It really felt like fate the way everything came together.
