Tell us your love story…

"We met at university 10 years ago, when I started in my first year and Ad was in his 3rd year. We started talking, mainly texting and long phone calls at nighttime, and after a few months, we made it official. After I finished university, I then went to do further study at another university, and we had to manage long-distance for a few years while we both got our careers off the ground. We were able to move into our first home together a few years ago and never looked back!

The proposal was about a year and a half ago; Ad had taken me to a gorgeous house and gardens for a walk. Unfortunately, I nearly ruined the proposal by patting down his jacket, joking and saying, 'You haven’t got a ring in there, have you?' It has become a long-running joke with me asking about getting engaged for a while before. He then chose a beautiful spot during that spring morning, and got down on one knee, with me crying (almost hysterically) saying, 'Is this real?' over and over again! He told me later that he had a little panic earlier as luckily, I had patted the wrong pocket and thankfully missed the ring!

We decided to get married in 2020, as it was our 10-year anniversary year, and apparently it would be easier for Ad to remember which anniversary would be coming up!"

What made you choose your gorgeous gown?

"When we first got engaged, I had no idea what type of dress I was looking for and was a little overwhelmed with all the choices around. When we initially went to look, I had very few expectations, as it was my first time shopping and had no idea what I was after. After trying 3 or 4 completely different styles of dresses, I started wondering whether I was going to find the dress of my dreams! I then tried the LESLEY on, and my face just changed! I hadn’t imagined a form-fitting dress with so much lace! I fell in love with the style and shape, with the low back and long train. I couldn’t stop smiling and looking at the dress in the mirror. The floral and foliage lace matched the style of the venue perfectly. I just didn’t want to take it off, and I couldn’t imagine getting married in another dress after that."

Do you have a most memorable wedding day moment?

"Due to the pandemic, our wedding was slightly different than we had originally envisaged in lots of ways. We ended up having a small, intimate ceremony with just 14 people joining us, followed by a small reception to celebrate afterwards. Due to the restrictions at the time, we had to have our guests wear masks during our ceremony, which was a little surreal. We also all had to follow social distancing throughout the day. We were still able to make it special, despite everything, and will remember it forever in such a positive way. It was also the first wedding that the registrars had done since lockdown, and we think they might have been a bit rusty, as they referred to Ad by his middle name at one point! Luckily, I remembered his actual name and corrected the registrars, to the sound of laughs around the room.

Despite changing our plans, it made us focus on what was important to us with our wedding and made us so thankful to be able to share it with our closest family and friends."

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your wedding?

"Our original wedding date was 6th June 2020, and unfortunately the UK was in the middle of a nationwide lockdown and weddings were not permitted. Instead, we had a small garden ceremony on the original date, with our ceremony broadcast over Zoom to our family and friends. We actually felt a little relieved as on the original date, the weather was terrible, despite being in the middle of a heat wave, and would have been disappointed to have our actual wedding in the middle of a downpour!"

Do you have any advice for other brides?

"Even though every couple’s plans have changed with the current situation, it really helped us to focus on what was important in our wedding, which was to make our vows to each other."
