Do as the Romans Do

When in Rome...Do as the Romans do! Chrissy and David tie the knot in the Eternal City. See gorgeous photos from popular spots such as the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain. Are you feeling a little wanderlust yet? You might just book a ticket to Italy next!

David and I are avid recreational athletes – he rides for a local cycling team, and I train with a local triathlon team. I never thought I’d meet my future husband cycling in Central Park one miserable, wintry day, but there you go.

We’ve lived less than a mile apart from each other and ridden the same roads for years, but never ran into each other.

David is as passionate about his recreational activities as he is about life. He has a strong wanderlust and has been to almost 60 countries (we’ve been to 25 together), and is committed to church and God.

David is a Creative Director for a local advertising agency. I’m a Lawyer for an Australian financial firm. He’s originally from Texas, and I’m originally from California. We’ve both been in New York for over 10 years.

Why did you choose to travel to Italy for your wedding?

Rome is a very special place for David and I. We wanted to have an intimate wedding with our immediate family at the Vatican, the heart of Roman Catholicism.

This was a special spiritual journey and pilgrimage for our families to celebrate our mutual devotion and closeness to the Holy Father and the season of Lent in Rome – our wedding was 2 days before Ash Wednesday, and 2 weeks before the 5th anniversary of our first date.

We were very grateful for the privilege and to have all of our immediate family, including some nieces and a nephew, with us to pray and celebrate together as a family as David and I began our journey as husband and wife.

We both have fond memories of Italy, too. David studied abroad in Rome, and I spent some time cycling around Italy.

The Dress! Please do tell us about it.

I wanted something romantic and modern, yet respectful of the traditional Vatican rules of having your shoulders, knees, and back covered.

The Jenny was one of the first dresses I tried on. I loved the intricate hand-beaded lace, which had the perfect amount of pop with little sequins and crystal beads sewn into the lace, and incredibly flattering tulle mermaid skirt and sweetheart neckline.

It is simply elegant, and you can tell the amount of thought and care that went into every detail.

For the ceremony, I ordered the Jacket-X with matching lace, and for the reception, I ordered the Ivory Belt-Z, an intricate and glamorous, beaded Alchemy clutch, and custom off-the-shoulder ivory lace sleeves, all by the beautiful Enzoani.

The dress, accessories, and design were so versatile and memorable – I had no doubts about what line I wanted to wear for my special day.
